According to Mehr News Agency, following the martyrdom of Ali Larijani, by the decree of the Leader of the Revolution, Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr was appointed as the new head of the Supreme National Security Council. The following is a look at the biography and background of Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr.

Seyed Mehdi Tabatabaei announced in a statement: Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, with the opinion and approval of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and by the decree of the President, was appointed as the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council.

Biography of Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr

Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr was born in 1954 in Fasa city (Fars province).

Before the revolution and during his adolescence, he engaged in religious and political activities and, during the Islamic Revolution of Iran, joined revolutionary groups to fight against the Pahlavi regime.

He holds a PhD in Strategic Management from the Supreme National Defense University.

Brigadier General Zolghadr is one of the commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and one of the founders of the overseas Ramadan Headquarters, based on whose mechanisms and activities the Quds Force (the overseas branch of the IRGC) was later formed.

He is 67 years old and, before the revolution, was a member of the "Mansouroun" group alongside Mohsen Rezaei, actively participating in armed struggles against the Pahlavi regime. 

After the 1979 revolution, Zolghadr was in charge of training for the IRGC. 

After the 8-year war, Zolghadr served as the Chief of Staff of the IRGC and also held the position of Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps for 8 years.

During Zolghadr's tenure as deputy commander, General Yahya Rahim Safavi was the Commander-in-Chief of the IRGC.
